Usage Note

Parenté refers to the state of being related by blood or marriage as well as to the body of relatives collectively — toute la parenté était réunie (all the family was gathered). Its second sense of affinity or resemblance is used in phrases like une parenté de style (a stylistic affinity). It should not be confused with les parents (parents or relatives) or la parenthèse (parenthesis).
