Usage Note
Péril is more formal and literary than danger. The set phrase au péril de sa vie ('at the peril of one's life') is common in written French. The adjective périlleux (perilous) and the idiom un saut périlleux (a somersault) derive from the same root.
Examples
"Il est en grand péril."
