Usage Note

Pèlerinage refers to a religious journey to a sacred site, most famously le pèlerinage de Lourdes in France. By extension it can mean any sentimental or commemorative trip (un pèlerinage sur les lieux de son enfance). Un pèlerin is a pilgrim; the Chemin de Saint-Jacques (Camino de Santiago) is a famous French pilgrimage route.
