Usage Note
Orphelin functions as both a noun (un orphelin — 'an orphan') and an adjective (un enfant orphelin — 'an orphaned child'). The feminine form is orpheline. In typography, an orphelin is also the first line of a paragraph left stranded at the bottom of a page.
