Usage Note

Médiéval describes anything relating to the Middle Ages (le Moyen Âge). Its feminine form is médiévale, and the plural is médiévaux (masculine) or médiévales (feminine). In informal or ironic speech, French speakers sometimes use it to dismiss something as backward or outdated — 'c'est vraiment médiéval' ('that's really medieval').
