Usage Note

Mortellement primarily means in a manner causing death, as in blessé mortellement ('mortally wounded'). In informal speech it is also used hyperbolically to mean 'deadly dull', as in c'est mortellement ennuyeux. The adjective mortel (feminine: mortelle) shares the same root.
