modeler

shape, mold

verb moh-deh-LEH Rare

Origin: Italian modellare

Usage Note

Modeler means to give form to something soft — clay, dough, a character — and also figuratively to shape a person's personality: l'enfance modèle le caractère. Note the accent difference: the verb is modeler (no accent on the first 'e') while the noun modèle has a grave accent.

Examples

"L'artiste modèle l'argile avec soin."
