Usage Note
Artiste is the same form for both masculine and feminine (un artiste, une artiste). In French it covers not only visual artists but also performers — musicians, actors, and circus artists. Said ironically, as in quel artiste!, it can mock someone as eccentric or unreliable rather than praise them.
