Usage Note

Atelier refers to an artisan's or artist's workshop, a fashion designer's studio, or a craft/training workshop (un atelier de couture). In corporate contexts, un atelier can also mean a breakout working session. The silent final '-er' is typical of French nouns ending in this way. Atelier has been borrowed directly into English for artistic studios.
