marmot

brat

noun mar-MOH Rare

Also means

kid

Usage Note

Marmot is a colloquial, familiar word for a young child, especially one who is noisy or mischievous, roughly equivalent to 'brat' or 'kid'. It should not be confused with marmotte (f), which is the animal (marmot/groundhog). The expression croquer le marmot means 'to kick one's heels' or 'to cool one's heels while waiting', a completely unrelated idiom.

Examples

"Les marmots couraient partout dans le jardin."

Natural Translation

The kids were running everywhere in the garden.
