Malade is invariable for gender and is used both as an adjective (elle est malade — 'she is sick') and as a noun (un malade / une malade — 'a patient'). In colloquial French, malade can also mean 'crazy' or 'insane' as an intensifier (c'est malade ! — 'that's insane!').
