Macho is a loanword in French, used as a noun (un macho) or adjective (des hommes machos). It carries a pejorative register, implying aggressive or dismissive attitudes toward women. The abstract noun machisme ('machismo') and adjective machiste are also used, the latter being slightly less charged than macho.
