Lubie describes a sudden, passing fancy or eccentric obsession — somewhat dismissive in tone. It is feminine: une lubie. A common construction is avoir une lubie ('to have a whim/craze') or c'est encore une de ses lubies ('it's another one of his crazy ideas').
