Usage Note

Lavande refers both to the plant and its distinctive pale purple colour; you can say bleu lavande or violet lavande as an invariable colour modifier. It is strongly associated with Provence, where lavender fields are a major cultural and tourist attraction. Lavandin (m) is a hybrid variety cultivated for its higher essential-oil yield.
