Insomnie is usually used in the singular (souffrir d'insomnie, avoir de l'insomnie), though the plural insomnies is possible for recurring bouts. Un insomniaque / une insomniaque describes the person affected. In French medicine, a distinction is made between insomnie passagère (temporary) and insomnie chronique (chronic).
