Usage Note

Infester describes an invasion by pests, parasites, or harmful organisms — infesté de rats (infested with rats). It is a regular -er verb. The adjective infesté is more common than the verb itself in everyday usage. Figuratively, infesté can describe a place overrun with undesirable people or things — infesté de touristes is a colloquial exaggeration sometimes heard in summer.
