Usage Note

Indulgence in French has the same double sense as in English: tolerant forgiveness toward someone's faults, and (in a Catholic context) a remission of sins. Faire preuve d'indulgence ('to show leniency') is a common phrase. The adjective indulgent (tolerant, lenient) is its frequent companion.
