Usage Note
Honneur appears in the formal phrase 'faire honneur à' (to do credit to) and the table expression 'faire honneur au repas' (to do justice to a meal). The Legion of Honor (Légion d'honneur), France's highest state decoration, is called that because it literally rewards distinguished service to the nation's honor.
