Usage Note
Gui is the parasitic plant hung in doorways during Christmas, under which people traditionally kiss. In France, le brin de gui ('sprig of mistletoe') sold on New Year's Day (le premier de l'an) is considered a lucky charm. The Druids of Gaul held mistletoe sacred, giving the word strong cultural resonance in French tradition.
Examples
"Il y a du gui au-dessus de la porte."
