Usage Note
Gravure covers the craft of engraving (cutting designs into metal, wood, or stone) as well as the resulting printed image. Gravure sur bois is woodcut, gravure à l'eau-forte is etching. In modern usage une belle gravure often refers simply to a framed decorative print. The verb graver means 'to engrave' or informally 'to burn' a CD.
