Usage Note

Gourde refers to both the dried hollow gourd used as a traditional vessel and any modern canteen or hip flask for water. Colloquially, it also means a clumsy or dim-witted person — quelle gourde ! ('what a klutz!'). It is also the name of the Haitian currency.
