Also means
kind
Usage Note
Genre is borrowed directly into English as a literary and artistic term, but in everyday French it simply means 'type', 'sort', or 'kind' — quel genre de musique? (what kind of music?). It also carries the grammatical meaning of 'gender', so le genre d'un nom means the grammatical gender of a noun. Informal use: c'est son genre means 'that is his/her style'.
