flamant
flamingo
noun flah-MAHN Rare
Origin: From Occitan/Provençal flamenc ('flame-coloured')
Usage Note
Flamant is almost always followed by rose — un flamant rose — and should not be confused with its homophone flamand ('Flemish'), spelled with a 'd'. The plural flamants roses is the standard zoological label. The bird's vivid pink colour comes from carotenoids in its diet.
Examples
"Des flamants roses se reposent au bord du lac."
Natural Translation
Flamingos are resting by the edge of the lake.
