déverser

to pour out, to discharge

verb deh-vehr-SEH Rare

Usage Note

Déverser is used for liquids, crowds, or large quantities flowing out of a container or vehicle. Se déverser (reflexive) means 'to flow into' or 'to empty into', often used of rivers entering the sea. It is more concrete and high-volume than verser, which covers pouring in general.

Examples

"Le fleuve se déverse dans la mer."

Natural Translation

The river flows into the sea.

Literal Translation

The river pours itself into the sea.
