drive-in
drive-in
noun DRYV-een Rare
Origin: Borrowed directly from English.
Usage Note
Drive-in is an anglicism used in French for both drive-in cinemas and drive-through restaurant services. The concept of a cinema drive-in never became as widespread in France as in North America, so the word is most often encountered in fast-food contexts. In casual speech it may also be spelled drive alone, as in passer au drive (to go through the drive-through).
Examples
"On a mangé au drive-in ce soir."
Natural Translation
We ate at the drive-in tonight.
Literal Translation
One has eaten at the drive-in this evening.
