Descendant refers to a person who descends from an ancestor — children, grandchildren, and beyond. The feminine form is descendante. It contrasts with ancêtre (ancestor) and ascendant (ascendant/ancestor). In astrology l'ascendant and le descendant are opposite points on the birth chart.
