Usage Note

Crête describes both the ridge of a mountain or wave and the fleshy red comb on a rooster's head. In geography la ligne de crête is the ridgeline of a mountain range. It is also the root of crête in hairstyling — a mohawk-style ridge of hair. Note the circumflex accent on the e.
