Continental most often describes climate (climat continental — marked seasonal extremes) or geography (Europe continentale — mainland Europe). In French hospitality, petit-déjeuner continental is a light breakfast of bread, butter, and jam as opposed to a cooked breakfast. The plural is continentaux.
