Constante is the feminine noun form of the adjective constant; in mathematics and physics it denotes a fixed quantity (e.g. la constante de Planck). In everyday language it can describe a recurring feature of someone's personality or behaviour. It is distinct from constance (steadfastness), which is an abstract quality.
