Usage Note
Connaisseur is used in French in exactly the same way as its English borrowing: someone with refined knowledge of a subject, especially wine, art, or food. The feminine is connaisseuse. The phrase en connaisseur means 'with a knowing eye' or 'like an expert'. It derives from connaître ('to know').
