Usage Note

Confiance is always feminine and is most often used in the set phrase avoir confiance en ('to trust in') or faire confiance à ('to trust someone'). La confiance en soi means 'self-confidence.' The verb se fier à is a stylistic alternative but faire confiance is far more conversational.
