Colosse refers to a person or structure of extraordinary size and power, from Greek kolossos meaning a large statue. In modern usage it often describes a very large, powerful man. The phrase un colosse aux pieds d'argile ('a colossus with feet of clay') means an apparently powerful entity with a hidden weakness.
