Usage Note
Chose is the catch-all word for any object or matter, and it shrinks into quelque chose (something) and autre chose (something else). It even turns adjective in the slang être tout chose (to feel off-colour), and French uses Monsieur Chose the way English reaches for 'whatsit'.
Examples
"J'ai une chose à te dire."
Natural Translation
I have something to tell you.
Literal Translation
I-have a thing to you-say
