Usage Note
Chinois as a noun (with capital C when referring to a person: un Chinois) means a Chinese person; as an adjective (un restaurant chinois) it is lowercase. The expression c'est du chinois ('it's Chinese to me') means something is incomprehensible. The feminine form is chinoise.
