Arabe functions as both a noun (an Arab person) and an adjective (Arabic/Arab); when used as a noun for a person, it is capitalized (un Arabe), but lower-case as an adjective (la culture arabe) or for the language (il parle arabe). L'arabe as a language has formal (classical) and many colloquial varieties.
