Also means
chase, pursuit
Usage Note
Chasse derives from chasser (to hunt or to chase away). The phrase chasse à courre refers to the traditional French fox-hunt on horseback. Donner la chasse means to give chase, and chasse d'eau is the flush of a toilet — a very different but common usage.
Examples
"La chasse est ouverte en automne."
Natural Translation
Hunting season opens in autumn.
