Usage Note

Caravane can refer to a travelling convoy (especially of merchants or nomads crossing a desert) or, in everyday modern French, a trailer/caravan used for camping. The compound caravane de camping or simply caravane is the standard word where British English says 'caravan' and American English says 'trailer'. Caravanserail shares the same Persian root.
