Usage Note

Bleu as a noun means the color blue (le bleu du ciel) or a bruise (avoir un bleu). The feminine adjectival form is bleue, and the plural is bleus/bleues. Bleu marine ('navy blue') and bleu ciel ('sky blue') are common compound shades. A bleu can also mean a raw recruit or a novice in informal French.
