Usage Note
Beaux-arts (always plural) refers to the fine arts as a discipline — painting, sculpture, architecture, etc. Les Beaux-Arts (with capitals) specifically names the prestigious French fine-arts schools, most famously the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. The term gave its name to the ornate Beaux-Arts architectural style.
