Usage Note

Baston is a very informal slang term for a physical fight or scrap, used mainly among younger speakers in France. The verb bastonner (to beat up) and the reflexive se bastonner (to fight each other) are derived from it. Avoid this word in formal or professional contexts; bagarre is the standard register equivalent.
