Attendrir has two distinct uses: to touch someone's heart (cette scène m'a attendri) and in cooking, to make meat tender (attendrir la viande). The reflexive s'attendrir means 'to be moved' or 'to soften up'. The adjective attendrissant ('touching, heart-warming') is very common.
