Étudier is the standard verb for studying — a subject, a language, or a dossier. The related noun étude means 'study' or a musical 'étude', while étudiant(e) is 'student'. Étudier à fond means 'to study in depth'. The verb follows the regular -er conjugation with a slight spelling adjustment in some forms.
