Usage Note
Écoute derives from écouter ('to listen'). Être à l'écoute de means 'to be attuned to' or 'to listen to' someone's needs. Les écoutes téléphoniques means 'phone tapping'. En écoute (or sur écoute) means 'under surveillance' or 'being tapped'.
