Vantard can function as both a noun (un vantard) and an adjective (il est vantard). The final -d is silent. The feminine form is vantarde. The related verb is se vanter (to boast), and vantardise is the noun for boastfulness. A common phrase is il n'est pas vantard used ironically of someone who is actually very boastful.
