véritable

true, genuine

adjective vay-ree-TAB-luh Less Common

Also means

real, actual

Usage Note

Véritable is stronger than vrai — it adds emphasis, as in un véritable désastre ('a real disaster', 'a veritable disaster'). It has the same form in the masculine and feminine and takes a standard -s plural. It usually precedes the noun it modifies.
