Usage Note
Truffe has two distinct meanings: the prized underground fungus (la truffe noire du Périgord) and, colloquially, a dog's or cat's nose. In cooking, la truffe is one of the most expensive ingredients in French cuisine, often shaved over pasta or eggs. The plural les truffes can also refer to chocolate truffles (truffes au chocolat).
