Trouille is a colloquial word for fear, more vivid than peur. Avoir la trouille means 'to be scared stiff'. The related adjective trouillard ('cowardly, scaredy-cat') is equally informal. It is firmly in everyday spoken French and would be inappropriate in formal writing.
