Terme has two main senses: a technical or specialized word (terme médical, 'medical term'), and a fixed point in time (à terme, 'at term' or 'in the long run'). The plural en bons termes means 'on good terms' with someone. À court terme / à long terme ('short-term / long-term') are very common phrases.
