Usage Note

Télégramme is the traditional written message sent by telegraph. Though largely replaced by digital communication, the word survives in legal and ceremonial contexts (official congratulations, condolences). The related verb télégraphier ('to telegraph') and adjective télégraphique (also meaning 'tersely worded') are still in use.
