Séquence is used in film (une séquence de film — a film sequence), music, mathematics, and everyday language. In French cinema criticism it refers to a continuous stretch of action. The adjective séquentiel (sequential) is used in technical and business contexts. It is a near-cognate of English 'sequence'.
